Dental disease is cause by plaque. The acids of the bacteria cause destruction of the tooth and can, in time, affect the dental pulp(nerve). If left untreated, eventually the tooth will become diseased. Decay known as dental caries will occur. Tooth pain, infection, and swelling are also eventual occurrences to untreated dental disease. It is important to have regular dental exam, good oral/dental preventive care, and routine x-ray evaluation as needed to monitor the health of the teeth and oral condition.
